I have made this hat three times using the pattern as a rough guide. I repeated round 4 to increase the number of stitches and I increased the rows to 12. Even the picture shows more than 8 rows. It looks like at least 10 rows.

I was wondering with ROUND 5 if you meant to repeat round 4 instead of round 3 because round 3 is 24 double crochets and round 4 is the 30 double crochets. Could you please clarify for me? Thank you so much…

I’m confused because it says to repeat round 3, 30 double crochet, but round 3 only had 24 dc. When I repeat round 4 it keeps increasing so I had to jerry-rig the pattern so the v-stitch works evenly around

How on earth can you get 30 double crochets when you go around, alternating v-stitches and three double crochets in 24 chain-1′s. I am obviously missing something. I am an early beginner and am probably misreading the pattern. I love the hat and would love to make one.

I carefully checked the gauge in both directions, but I ended up with a skull cap NOT the flapper style that the photo shows. I used a #4 yarn and J-hook and a loose hand on the stitches, but no soap. I have been crocheting for 70 years and teaching for 50, but this was a great failure. I will be able to save the project, but the end product will be more mine than yours.

I am trying to make this hat, and have done and redone round 4, and i dont get 30 double crochets no matter what i do, im not sure what im doing wrong, but would greatly appreciate some help on this. i end up with way more than thirty

I had the exact same issue as Mary. This hat is WAY too small for my average size had. It looks like a Yamaka on my head. It’s cute as can be but isn’t working for me. I’ve made many, many hats, so I don’t know what the problem is, but I’m going to check it out more.
