Wow, I'm 12 and I LOVE knitting and crochet. I was looking for a pattern for my teacher and I found this. This is perfect.
I've read the books and I literally LOVE them. I started a knitting club at my school last year. I hope there are more.

I think the confusion some of you are encountering comes from the direction for Round 4. What I did and it worked was....

Slip stitch in first chain 1 space, chain 4, double crochet in same chain 1 space (making a V stitch)

Then...

* Ch1, double crochet in the next Ch1 space, Ch1 double crochet in the next Ch1 space, Ch 1, double crochet in the next Ch1 space, Ch 1, V-stitch in the next Ch1 space (one increase made)*; repeat from * around ending with chain 1, slip stitch in top of beginning chain-4 to join

So, what you get is: V stitch, ch1, double crochet, ch 1 double crochet, ch 1 double crochet, V stitch.

Makes 30 double crochets

I have made this hat three times using the pattern as a rough guide. I repeated round 4 to increase the number of stitches and I increased the rows to 12. Even the picture shows more than 8 rows. It looks like at least 10 rows.

I was wondering with ROUND 5 if you meant to repeat round 4 instead of round 3 because round 3 is 24 double crochets and round 4 is the 30 double crochets. Could you please clarify for me? Thank you so much...

I'm confused because it says to repeat round 3, 30 double crochet, but round 3 only had 24 dc. When I repeat round 4 it keeps increasing so I had to jerry-rig the pattern so the v-stitch works evenly around

How on earth can you get 30 double crochets when you go around, alternating v-stitches and three double crochets in 24 chain-1's. I am obviously missing something. I am an early beginner and am probably misreading the pattern. I love the hat and would love to make one.
